Delicato Organic is a Sicilian Arbequina: smooth, harmonious and elegant. Almond, lettuce and green tomato, with gentle bitterness and pepperiness. Early harvested and rich in polyphenols. Read more
A smooth and elegant organic Arbequina from Sicily. Sweet almond, green tomato and fresh vegetal notes reminiscent of young lettuce create a refined whole. Bitterness and pepperiness are deliberately gentle and beautifully balanced, with a long and pleasant finish.
Arbequina with a Sicilian story
Delicato is made from Arbequina olives that have developed a very particular story in Sicily. Miceli & Sensat grafted Arbequina onto wild Sicilian olive trees and therefore describes it as an Arbequina that has been “made Sicilian”.
The result is distinctive: Arbequina's familiar smooth and elegant character remains recognisable, but the Sicilian terroir gives it an expression of its own. Delicato is therefore clearly different from both a classic Spanish Arbequina and the more powerful Sicilian oils in the Miceli & Sensat range.
The olives for Delicato grow in Miceli & Sensat's family groves in Sicily. They are harvested early in the season and processed in the estate's own mill within a few hours.
So even for its softest oil, Miceli & Sensat does not rely on simple, late-harvested olives. Delicato is intended to be mild and elegant while retaining the freshness, purity and aromatic quality expected from a high-quality Extra Virgin olive oil.
The producer describes Delicato as sweet, harmonious and elegant. Almond is particularly noticeable, accompanied by green tomato and a fresh vegetal note reminiscent of young lettuce.
Bitterness and pepperiness are present, because even a smooth Extra Virgin olive oil needs structure, but they deliberately remain in the background. In our Olive Oil Guide, Delicato therefore scores 7 for fruitiness, 3 for bitterness, 3 for pepperiness and 8 for complexity. Its softness scores 8.
The fact that Delicato tastes smooth does not mean that it is a simple, late-harvested olive oil. Miceli & Sensat states a polyphenol content of at least 500 mg/kg.
That is precisely what makes this oil interesting: an early-harvest Extra Virgin olive oil with a high polyphenol content, while its bitterness and pepperiness remain remarkably refined. Delicato demonstrates that high quality does not automatically have to mean an extremely powerful flavour.
Delicato is particularly good with white fish, fresh salads, vegetables, light pasta dishes, mozzarella and burrata. The oil adds aroma and freshness without overpowering delicate ingredients.
It is also a particularly pleasant Extra Virgin olive oil for vinaigrettes, mayonnaise and light dressings. Miceli & Sensat itself offers another surprising suggestion: try Delicato with fruit ice cream or sorbet.
For people who sometimes find powerful, bitter and peppery olive oils too dominant, Delicato is an excellent way to discover just how refined a smooth Extra Virgin olive oil can be.
Over the years, Delicato has built an impressive list of international awards. It again attracted considerable attention in 2026: at Olive Japan, Delicato was awarded Premier – Best of Show.
In addition, Delicato received second prize in the medium-fruity category at Expoliva, Extra Gold at BIOL and Gold at JOOP in 2026.
That makes Delicato particularly interesting: an oil that does not try to impress through extreme bitterness or pepperiness, but receives international recognition for harmony, finesse and quality.
Delicato is an organic, 100% Italian Extra Virgin olive oil. Miceli & Sensat uses olives from its own family groves and processes them in its own mill. From tree to bottle, the process therefore remains in the hands of the producer.
